Our Faithful Shepherd

There are some dry, barren lands we must cross
As God's beloved sheep;
There are dark valleys, difficult mountains,
Some waters rough and deep.
There are enemies to encounter,
Battles to be fought,
Storms to endure,
Lessons to be taught.
Through it all, our Shepherd is faithful,
As our eyes are fixed on Him:
He's the water of life in a dry thirsty land,
The light in the valley dim;
He undergirds as we climb steep mountains,
And carries us through waters deep;
He protects us from the angry wolves
Who seek to harm His sheep;
He fights our battles for us,
And shelters us in the storm,
Teaching us to trust Him
As He keeps us safe and warm.
Praise the Name of Jesus -
The Shepherd of our soul;
We're the people of His pasture -
And He's faithful to His fold.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
"For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand..."
(Ps. 23:1; Ps.95:7)

Ask

God's listening ear is always open
To our humble plea;
And His loving hand is always ready
To lead when we can't see.
His Holy Spirit guides
As we look above and pray,
And His precious Word lights the paths
We travel every day.
His amazing grace provides,
No matter what the task,
When in faith we come to Him,
And just very simply...Ask.

"...ye have not, because ye ask not."
"... all things whatsoever ye ask
in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

Greater Than All

God is greater than All:
All the trials we face each day,
All temptations that come our way,
All insecurities and fears,
All heartaches and tears,
All suffering and pain,
All loss and All gain.
Praise God,
He's Greater Than All!

Indescribable Blessings

No poet's pen could e'er describe
The glories of our King;
Nor human tongue proclaim the joys
That cause our hearts to sing.
No words in any language
Could portray His Majesty;
Nor explain the glow within the being
Of a sinful soul set free.
No form of communication,
In modern times or old,
Could e'er relate His perfect peace
Imparted to the soul.
Beyond all mortal expression,
Abundant blessings flow,
Reaching hearts at the foot of the cross
With a portion of heaven to know.
Father, thank You for the wondrous glories
Of Christ our Lord and King,
And for the Indescribable Blessings
Knowing Him doth bring.

The Glory of Creation

There's a glory of the sun and moon,
And of every twinkling star,
Declaring the wondrous love of God
From His mighty throne afar.
Each beam brightly flickering forth
Proclaims His glory and grace,
Reaching deep within the soul
Lighting the darkest place.
The glorious beauty of a sunrise
Engulfs the heart in rapture,
And the radiant glow of a sunset...
No artist's brush can capture.
Whenever we look toward heaven,
The magnificent sea, or land,
We stand in awe of majestic splendor
Created by God's own hand.
Each and every creature included-
Beautiful by His design,
Having a glory all their own...
No poet can define.
Praise God for The Glory of Creation-
The bodies that are terrestrial,
But most of all for the Glory of Christ,
And new creatures in Him celestial.

"There are celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial:
but the glory of the celestial is one,
and the glory of the terrestrial is another."
(1 Cor.15:40)

Life is a preparatory school:
The Teacher - The Holy Spirit
The Textbook - The Bible
The Assistant - The preacher
The Students - All mankind
The Lessons - The Truth
For spirit, soul and mind
Graduation Day - Departure-
A time of celebration
Award - The Highest Degree-
Eternal Life - Glorification!
Many who attend turn a deaf ear
To what the Teacher would say,
And leave the school unprepared
For Graduation Day.
Father, prepare our hearts to meet You;
May we pass each and every test,
Graduating into Glory
To receive Your very best.

"...when he, the Spirit of truth, is come,
he will guide you into all truth..."
(John 16:13)

God's Promises

God never promised there'd be no trouble-
No hardship for you and me,
But He promised to always be with us
Whatever the trial may be.
He never promised sunshine only-
Freedom from storms and rain,
But He promised the difficult times
Would work for our spiritual gain.
He promised to be our Shelter,
And cover us with His hand;
The Rock upon which our feet are planted-
Stability in a weary land.
He promised to be our Light in darkness,
And guide our steps each day;
Our tender loving Comforter
When heartaches come our way.
He promised to be our Teacher,
Revealing His will and plan,
Teaching us to trust Him
When we fail to understand.
The lessons we learn through suffering
Qualify us for the Highest Degree,
As we become more like Jesus-
Prepared for eternity.

"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time
are not worthy to be compared with the glory
which shall be revealed in us."
(Rom. 8:18)

The Greatest Commandment

Of all the commandments given,
The greatest one is love.
The scriptures teach so clearly -
"First love God above."
We're to love Him with all our heart,
And with all our mind and soul;
Love Him above all else,
In our youth, and when we're old.
This is the most important law,
As taught by Christ Himself;
And the second is like unto it -
"Love your neighbor as yourself."
On these two commandments
Hang all laws - falling into place,
As we bear the fruit of God's love...
Reaching out to the human race.

"...thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it,
thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
(Matt. 22:37-39)

God's Holy Laws

The ten commandments given by God
On that mountain so long ago,
Are His holy laws for all mankind,
That His righteous way we'd know.
Plainly written in His Word,
Too clear to misunderstand,
Bringing conviction to our hearts
In keeping with His plan.
In light of His righteousness and holiness,
We bow on bended knee,
Repenting and confessing our sin -
As the Saviour sets us free...
By His shed blood we're liberated
From the bondage of guilt and sin,
And now the commandments we could not keep
Are indelibly written within.
Christ came not to make void the law,
But that it would be fulfilled -
As we walk in fellowship with Him -
His Spirit in us revealed.
Father, may we always keep your holy laws,
Never to go astray.
Thank You for enabling grace
As we abide in You each day.

"I delight to do thy will, O my God:
yea, thy law is within my heart."

A Debt of Love

Not willing any should perish,
God's love extends to all...
The sacrificial death on Calvary -
Redemption from the fall.
A love deeper than the ocean,
Reaching far and wide -
Receptive hearts are blessed,
As in Him they abide.
Such a debt of love we owe
For our Saviour's life laid down,
And as we onward go,
May we evermore be found
Loving others as He loved us -
Giving our lives for our friends;
Serving as our Saviour leads,
Until our journey ends.

"...love one another, as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends."
(John 15:12-13)

In His Hands

Tragedy strikes so suddenly
Changing all our plans;
More than ever we realize
Our lives are in His hands:
Hands - so strong and mighty,
Protect us day by day,
Guarding our hearts and minds
When troubles come our way.
Hands - so warm and loving,
Strengthen and give release,
In the midst of the raging battle
There's a deep settled peace.
Hands - so comforting and caring
Undergird in our darkest hour,
Carrying us through rough waters
As we rest in sovereign power.
Father, thank You for holding us securely
In Your strong omnipotent Hands;
Help us to submit completely
To Your perfect will and plans.

"The Lord is good, a strong hold

He Always Understands

When our best seems not enough,
And somehow we've missed the mark-
When misunderstood by others,
And the day is dreary and dark-
Our precious Lord lights our way
As He holds us in His hands,
Encouraging our weary souls-
He always understands.
His grace is all sufficient
When we find our spirits low;
And though our flesh is very weak,
Divine strength we can know.
As we sense His tender loving care,
Undergirding - lifting us up,
Giving assurance of His faithfulness,
Filling our empty cup,
Our spirits are revived-
Rejoicing floods our souls-
Vibrant vessels once again
Ready to serve within the fold.
Christ is the Light when all is dark,
And we've missed our goals and plans.
He's the stabilizing force beneath our wings,
And He Always Understands.

"Thou knowest my downsitting and my uprising,
Thou understandest my thought afar off."
